How to link personas to other building blocks
Overview
In TheyDo, personas can be linked to journeys, insights, quotes, and metrics. These connections let your team filter and understand work through the lens of specific customer segments — making it easy to answer questions like "what does this experience look like for this type of customer?" or "which insights apply to this segment?"
Before you start
- You need journey structure edit permission to link personas to a journey.
- You need insight edit permission to link personas to insights.
- Personas must be created in the Personas library first before they can be linked to anything.
Link a persona to a journey
Linking a persona to a journey tells TheyDo whose experience is being mapped. A journey can have multiple personas, and a persona can be linked to multiple journeys.
- Open the journey.
- Click Details in the journey header to open the details panel.
- Find the Personas field in the property list.
- Click the field and select the persona(s) you want to link.
Changes save automatically.
To unlink a persona from a journey:
- Open the journey's Details panel.
- Find the Personas field and remove the persona.
You can also unlink from the persona side — open the persona, go to the Journeys tab, and remove the journey from there.
Link a persona to an insight
Linking a persona to an insight shows which customer segment a finding applies to.
- Open the insight in the side panel or full-page view.
- In the properties panel, find the Personas field.
- Select the persona(s) that this insight applies to.
Link a persona to a quote
Linking a persona to a quote attributes feedback from the Data Hub to the right customer segment.
- Open the quote in the Data Hub.
- In the quote properties, find the Personas field.
- Select the persona this feedback belongs to.
Link a persona to a metric
Linking a persona to a metric scopes that measurement by customer segment.
- Open the metric in the side panel or full-page view.
- In the properties panel, find the Personas field.
- Select the persona(s) you want to link.
Using the experience curve with multiple personas
When more than one persona is linked to a journey, the experience curve (mood/empathy lane) can display in two ways:
- Individual view — shows a separate curve per persona, so you can see how each segment experiences the journey differently.
- Aggregated view — shows a combined average across all linked personas.
Switch between views using the display options in the journey's experience curve controls.
Filtering by persona
Once personas are linked across your workspace, you can filter journeys, insights, and metrics by persona from the filter bar in each library. This is useful for quickly pulling up everything that relates to a specific customer segment.
Tips
- A journey can have multiple personas linked to it — useful when the experience spans more than one customer type.
- Linking personas to insights and quotes is especially powerful when you're using AI mining, as it helps attribute findings to the right segment from the start.
- If you're not seeing the Personas field on a building block, check that you have edit permission for that item.
