How to create a persona
Overview
This guide walks you through creating a new persona in TheyDo. Personas are workspace-level records, so anything you create here will be available to use across all your journeys and building blocks.
Before you start
- You need persona edit permission to create a persona.
- Personas can only be created from the Personas library. You can't create one inline from a journey or other building block — if you try to select a persona that doesn't exist yet, TheyDo will prompt you to go to the library first.
Steps
- Go to Personas in the main navigation.
- Click New persona in the toolbar.
- A new persona opens in the side panel. Give it a name.
- Fill in the persona's profile — you can add a description, personality traits, external links, and attachments in the Details tab.
- Use the property list on the side panel to set a color, assign categories or tags, and add an owner.
- To add an avatar or cover image, use the Add cover image option in the side panel actions menu.
The persona is saved automatically as you edit.
Other ways to create personas
- Duplicate — duplicate an existing persona from its actions menu when you need a similar profile for a different segment.
- Workspace or journey copy — personas are carried over automatically when you copy a workspace or a journey.
What's set automatically at creation
When a new persona is created, TheyDo automatically sets up five default personality traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Stability) with blank scores for you to fill in, and generates a share key for public sharing.
Tips
- You can expand any persona from the side panel to full-page view for more editing space — click the expand icon in the panel header.
- Categories and tags make it easier to filter personas later, so it's worth setting these up from the start.
- Focus on needs, jobs, and motivations rather than demographics — this makes personas more useful across journeys.
