How to connect solutions to other building blocks
Overview
Solutions don't live in isolation — they're most useful when connected to the opportunities they address, the insights that support them, the goals they contribute to, and the journeys they impact. This article covers the different ways to create those connections in TheyDo.
Connect a solution to an opportunity
The most common connection is linking a solution to the opportunity it addresses.
- Open the solution you want to connect.
- Go to the Opportunities tab.
- Click Add opportunity.
- Search for and select the opportunity.
This creates a clear line from the problem you're solving to how you're solving it.
Connect a solution to an insight
Link supporting evidence or research directly to a solution.
- Open the solution.
- Go to the Insights tab.
- Click Add insight.
- Search for and select the insight.
Connect a solution to a goal
Show how a solution contributes to a larger outcome.
- Open the solution.
- Go to the Goals tab.
- Click Link goal.
- Select the goal you want to connect.
Connect a solution to another solution
Solutions can be nested to reflect a hierarchy — for example, a program broken into workstreams, or a large initiative split into smaller modules.
- Open the solution.
- Go to the Solutions tab.
- Add a parent or child solution to build out the structure.
Link a solution to a journey
Solutions are connected to journeys from the journey view, not from the solution detail page.
- Open the journey where the solution should appear.
- Locate or add a Solutions lane.
- Add or drag the solution into the lane at the relevant step.
Once placed, the solution's detail page will show that journey under its Journeys tab. This is read-only — it reflects where the solution has been placed, rather than a link you set from within the solution itself.
Because solutions are library items, the same solution can be placed across multiple journeys to show where it appears end-to-end.
Connect from the opportunity side
You can also create the connection from the other direction.
- Open the opportunity you want to link.
- Find the Solutions section.
- Link the solution from there.
The relationship is the same either way — it doesn't matter which side you start from.
Tips
- Metrics and personas aren't directly linked to solutions from the solution detail page. Metrics are tracked at the journey or opportunity level instead.
- If you're unsure which building block to connect, this mental model can help:
- Journey step — where in the experience
- Insight — what's happening / evidence
- Opportunity — what should change
- Solution — how you'll address it
- Goal — why it matters
