How to upload and manage data sources

Overview

Data Hub is where you store and manage all the research your team brings into TheyDo. This guide walks through uploading files, organizing your library, and keeping sources in good shape for Journey AI.

Before you start

  • You need insight edit permissions to upload and manage sources.
  • AI must be enabled for your organization and workspace. If you don't see the Upload button, check with your admin.

Adding sources

  1. Go to Data Hub in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Upload in the top right corner.
  3. Add your files. You can:
    • Select files from your computer (up to 30 at a time — PDF, Word, PowerPoint, CSV, TXT, and VTT formats supported)
    • Paste text directly from a website, document, or other source
  4. Set the source type for each file: Interview, Survey, Support, or Feedback. Use Assign to all to apply one type to everything in the batch.
  5. If you're uploading a CSV, you'll be prompted to map columns — assign each column a role (Text, Date, Persona, Quotes, or Ignore) so Journey AI knows what to extract.
  6. Click Analyze sources to start processing.

Your sources will appear in the library table. Processing happens automatically — you'll see the status update as Journey AI works through each file.

Browsing and filtering your library

Your library shows all sources in your workspace. You can:

  • Search by source name
  • Filter by type, origin, status, date, owner, persona, or tags
  • Sort by any column (title, type, date, owner, and more)
  • Use Configure to show or hide specific columns

Managing individual sources

Open any source to view its details and extracted quotes. From there, you can also:

  • Rename it to something more descriptive
  • Append data – add more files to an existing source (CSV only, requires at least one already-processed file)
  • Re-ingest – retry processing if something went wrong
  • Delete it – you'll have the option to keep or remove any extracted quotes alongside it

Bulk actions

Select multiple sources to run operations across them at once:

  • Delete – remove sources in bulk
  • Create journey – generate a new journey from the selected sources (requires journey manage permission)
  • Enrich journey – mine the sources into an existing journey (requires insight edit permission)

Tips

  • Sources are workspace-scoped and won't appear in other workspaces in your organization.
  • When pasting text from different sources, create a separate file for each one rather than combining them into one. This helps Journey AI identify patterns across multiple sources.
  • For CSV files, a little cleanup before uploading goes a long way — remove extra headers, blank rows, and columns with irrelevant data.
  • A source's status reflects its files. If any file is still processing, the whole source will show as Processing until it finishes.
