How to create a Doc

This guide walks you through creating a doc in TheyDo and linking it to a journey. You can create a doc from within a journey using the TheyDo Agent, or start one directly from the Docs library.

Before you start

  • AI must be enabled for your workspace to generate docs with the TheyDo Agent
  • If you're creating a doc from a journey, make sure the journey has content for the Agent to work with

Create a doc from a journey

This is the most common starting point. The Agent generates the doc based on the journey you're in, and it gets automatically linked to that journey.

  1. Open the journey you want to create a doc from.
  2. Open the TheyDo Agent chat.
  3. Type your prompt — for example: "Write an executive summary of this journey" or "Create a business case based on the top opportunities here."
  4. Review the output. The Agent will propose the doc before creating it, you'll see an approval step.
  5. Approve to save. The doc will appear in the Docs tab of the journey and in the Docs library.

Want to go deeper? See Use AI to generate a Doc for prompt ideas, embedded charts, and how to keep refining the doc with the Agent afterward.

Create a doc from the Docs library

  1. Go to Docs from the navigation.
  2. Select New document.
  3. Use the TheyDo Agent to generate content, or write directly in the editor.

Add charts and data

Once a doc is created, you can enrich it with visual data:

  1. Inside the doc, select Add pulse chart to insert a chart — for example, insights by step.
  2. Choose the journey and view you want to pull data from.
  3. You can also add metrics and switch between card and chart visualizations.

Add a table of contents

A long doc is hard to move around in. A table of contents block gives readers a clickable outline of the doc's headings, so they can jump straight to the section they need instead of scrolling for it.

  1. Place your cursor on an empty line where the outline should sit, usually near the top of the doc.
  2. Type / to open the insert menu, or click the + button on the line.
  3. Search for Table of contents and select it. Typing /toc or /outline finds it too.

The block reads the headings already in your doc and lists them in order, indented to match their level. Clicking an entry scrolls smoothly to that heading and updates the address bar, so you can copy the link and send a colleague straight to that section.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Only Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 appear in the outline. Deeper headings, and headings with no text in them, are left out.
  • The outline is live. Add, rename, reorder, or delete a heading and every table of contents in the doc updates straight away, including while a colleague is editing alongside you.
  • The block shows a Table of contents title above the outline by default. To hide it, hover over the block, open the grip menu on its left, and turn off Show title.
  • You can drag the block anywhere in the doc, and a doc can hold more than one.

Tip: If the block shows Add headings to create a table of contents, your doc has no headings yet. Give it some structure with Heading 1 to Heading 3 and the outline fills itself in. Note: Table of contents blocks work in journey and goal descriptions too, not only in Docs. Reviewer note: CONFIRM WITH PRODUCT whether a table of contents block renders in PDF export, and whether its entries stay clickable in the exported file. This is not covered in the knowledge base, and readers will ask.

Docs and journeys can be linked to each other. This keeps reference material attached to the journeys it relates to, and makes it easy to find from either side.

From a doc:

  1. Open the doc and scroll to the Journeys section below the properties.
  2. Select Link journey and choose the journey from the picker.
  3. To unlink, select the journey row and confirm.

From a journey:

  1. Open the journey and go to the Docs tab in the side panel or modal.
  2. Select Link document and choose the doc.
  3. To unlink, select the row and confirm.

Note: Docs and journeys must be in the same workspace to be linked.

Tips

  • You can use an existing doc as a template. When prompting the Agent, reference the doc you'd like it to follow — it will match the structure and tone.
  • The TheyDo Agent can also edit docs. Describe what you'd like to change and it will propose the update for your approval.
  • You can highlight text inside a doc to focus the Agent on a specific passage.
