Duplicate Docs when duplicating a journey or workspace

When you duplicate a journey or a workspace, you can now bring your Docs along with it. Docs travel with the journey or workspace they belong to, so the new copy arrives complete rather than missing its reports and summaries.

This article explains what happens to Docs in each case, how private Docs are handled, and how references inside a Doc are kept intact when you copy across workspaces or organizations.

When you duplicate a journey

Journey duplication includes a step where you choose what to copy. Docs now appear as one of the things you can select. Tick it to include the journey's Docs in the copy, or leave it unticked to duplicate the journey without them.

Because Docs stay linked to the journey they came from, the ones you include arrive already connected to the duplicated journey, ready to open from its Docs tab.

To include Docs when duplicating a journey:

1. Open the journey you want to duplicate, either from the Journey library or from the journey itself.
2. Open the actions menu and select Duplicate.
3. Choose your copy mode (how much of the journey to copy).
4. In the content selection step, tick Docs along with any building blocks and taxonomy you want to bring across.
5. Choose the destination workspace (the same one or a different one).
6. Confirm to start the copy. Your Docs appear in the duplicated journey's Docs tab.

When you duplicate a workspace

Duplicating a workspace copies all of its Docs into the new workspace. You don't select them one by one; they come across as part of the workspace.

Private Docs stay private. A Doc that was private to its owner remains private to that same owner in the duplicated workspace. Duplication never changes who can see a Doc, so nothing that was restricted becomes visible to others as a result of the copy.

To duplicate a workspace with its Docs:

1. Go to Settings > Workspaces.
2. Open the actions menu on the workspace you want to copy and select Duplicate.
3. Choose which content to include. All Docs are duplicated automatically, so you don't need to select them.
4. Confirm. The copy runs in the background, and the new workspace shows a progress indicator until it's done.

Duplicating to a different workspace or organization

Docs often reference other things in TheyDo, such as journeys, insights, opportunities, and other building blocks. These references are called mentions.

When you duplicate into a different workspace or organization, TheyDo remaps those mentions to the duplicated items. If a journey or building block that a Doc mentions was also duplicated as part of the same copy, the mention in the new Doc points at the duplicate rather than at the original in the source workspace. This keeps your Docs internally consistent, so a copied report still links to the copied journey it was written about, not back to where it came from.

Reviewer note: Remapping applies to items duplicated alongside the Doc. If a mentioned item wasn't part of the duplicated content, its reference can't be remapped to a duplicate that doesn't exist.
