Surfacing duplicate insights
As research piles up, the same finding often gets captured more than once. TheyDo can point out those likely duplicates for you, right where you work, so you do not have to hunt for them. This article is for people with editing access to insights who want to find and clean up duplicates as they go.
Where duplicates show up
When TheyDo detects insights that closely resemble each other, it flags them with an "X similar insights" prompt in three places:
- A button that says “Review similar insights” in the insight library.
- A column in the library table view, showing a duplicate count per insight.
- The side panel for an individual insight.
The same duplicate counts also appear in the insights table views inside journeys, so you can spot duplicates while you are working in a journey, not only in the central library.
Who sees these prompts
Whether you see duplicate suggestions depends on your permissions.
If you have the insights editor permission, TheyDo flags likely duplicates for you in the banner, the side panel, and the library column. If you do not have that permission but you do have insights permissions, you will not see those prompts, but you can still select the insights you want to combine and merge them yourself.
Duplicate detection compares insights by meaning, not by exact wording, so it can catch two insights that make the same point in different words.
From a duplicate prompt into the merge
The prompts are a shortcut into merging. When you see an insight that has duplicates, you have two ways in:
- Click straight into the merge flow from the prompt, or
- Open the insight's side panel and choose Review duplicates to start merging.
Either way, the merge screen opens with the combined preview ready for you to review, adjust, and confirm. Merging keeps the originals archived rather than deleted, replaces them across your journeys, and recalculates the score from all the combined quotes. For the full walkthrough of that screen, see the article on how to merge duplicate insights.
Tip: Sort the library by the duplicate count column now and then and work through the flagged insights. Cleanup stays a small recurring habit instead of a quarterly project.
