Jira integration

Connect TheyDo to Jira to sync solutions with your Jira backlog and roadmap. When you push a solution from TheyDo to Jira, it creates a work item there — and status updates can flow back automatically.

Before you start

  • You need integration-management permission in TheyDo.
  • You need access to your organization's Jira Apps Marketplace to install the TheyDo app.

How to set up the Jira integration

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations in TheyDo.
  2. Find Jira under Product integrations and select Enable.
  3. Enter the first part of your Jira URL — for example: https://yourcompany.atlassian.net. Click Authorize.
  4. In Jira, go to the Apps Marketplace and search for TheyDo.
  5. Install the TheyDo app in your Jira environment.
  6. Return to TheyDo — the status should update to Active within 1–2 minutes.

If the status doesn't change after a couple of minutes, try removing and reinstalling the TheyDo app in Jira, then repeat the steps above.

Multiple instances: You can connect more than one Jira site by following the same setup steps for each additional instance.

Configure synchronization settings

Once connected, you can set up how TheyDo and Jira stay in sync.

Default Jira project

Choose a default project to push solutions to. You can still select a different project each time, but setting a default saves a step.

Two-way synchronization

Toggle on two-way sync if you want title and description changes in Jira to reflect back in TheyDo. If you prefer only one-way syncing (TheyDo → Jira), keep this off.

Map statuses

Status mapping tells TheyDo how to update a solution's status when a work item changes status in Jira.

Per-project mapping:

  1. Select the Jira project you want to map.
  2. Choose the TheyDo workspace it connects to.
  3. On the left, you'll see Jira statuses. On the right, link each one to a TheyDo status.

Bulk update (available May 2025):

If you have many Jira projects, use Bulk Update to map statuses globally in one go, then adjust per-project as needed.

  1. Go to the Bulk Update tab.
  2. Map TheyDo solution statuses to Jira statuses for all projects.
  3. Switch to Project Rules to review or adjust specific projects.
  4. Click Save.

By default, bulk updates only apply to unmapped statuses. Toggle Replace all existing mappings if you want to override existing project-level mappings.

Re-installing the integration

If you need to reinstall:

  1. Remove the TheyDo app in Jira.
  2. Remove the Jira integration in TheyDo.
  3. Add the Jira integration in TheyDo for the same site name.
  4. Install the TheyDo app in Jira again.
