With the Jira integration, you can sync TheyDo solutions with Jira projects.
How to install and authorize Jira in TheyDo
To install the Jira integration you need to be on the Management plan in TheyDo.
Go to Settings in TheyDo (bottom left corner of your dashboard) and click on Integrations
Click ‘Enable’ in the Jira product integration line
Enter your Jira cloud details (find it by navigating to your Jira cloud environment and copying the part between https:// and .atlassian.net)
Click ‘Authorize’.
Install the TheyDo app in Jira:
In Jira, navigate to the Jira Apps marketplace and search for TheyDo
Install the TheyDo app in your Jira environment
Once the app is installed, go back to TheyDo and press Authenticate.
The authentication won’t work until the app is fully installed (try to remove and reinstall the app if it doesn’t work)
Setting up two-way synchronization
When you create a solution in TheyDo, you can push it to Jira as an Epic, a Story, a Task, or a Bug. Then, when the description changes in Jira (e.g. acceptance criteria are added), you will see those changes reflected in TheyDo.
Choose a default project to serve as the main Jira project to which Solutions are pushed or linked (you can choose the specific project every time, but this default project saves you a click).
Toggle on 2-way synchronization and click on ‘Update’.
If you don’t want the Title and Description to update after the initial push (or during linking), then keep this turned off.
Map statuses
Choose the Jira project that you want to connect with (multiple projects can be linked to one workspace)
Choose the TheyDo workspace that connects to that Jira project.
On the left you see the statuses of the Jira project. On the right, you can link a TheyDo status to those Jira statuses. When a work item changes status in Jira to the status on the left, TheyDo will update the solution status to the linked status
New! (May 2025 release) - Bulk update
When you own many Jira projects you may want to start with Bulk Update to map statuses between TheyDo and Jira. By doing so, you’ll set up all statuses once for all Jira projects and then, have the ability to adjust per project.
Here's how it works. You can now see two options for mapping statuses:
Project Rules: The familiar interface for mapping individual projects, now accessible via this tab.
Bulk Update: Our new feature that lets you apply global mappings across all projects.
How to map :
Start with “Bulk update”
Map TheyDo solutions to Jira statuses for all solutions & projects
Go back to the “Project Rules” tab and check that everything is set as expected or adjust
You’re done! Your journey solutions can now be synchronized :)
An important feature to highlight: by default, your existing project-specific mappings are preserved. These bulk updates will only apply to unmapped statuses. If you want to replace existing mappings, you can toggle this option at the bottom.
With a single click on Save, these mappings are now applied across all your Jira projects. If you need a specific exception later, you can still override it using the Project Rules tab for that particular project.
