How to use Ask TheyDo

Ask TheyDo helps you explore and improve living customer journeys using plain-language questions.

This guide shows you where to access Ask TheyDo, how context works, and how to get the most out of each conversation.

Before you start

Permissions

Ask TheyDo can only access content you have permission to view and edit.

If you don’t have access to a journey, building block, or library, Ask TheyDo won’t be able to use that content in its responses.

What Ask TheyDo can reference

Ask TheyDo has access to:

  • Your journey content in TheyDo

  • TheyDo’s Help Center and enablement materials

  • Public content on theydo.com related to journey management

Ask TheyDo does not browse the full internet. This keeps responses focused and contextualized for TheyDo and journey management.

Step-by-step: using Ask TheyDo

1. Open Ask TheyDo

You can open Ask TheyDo from:

  • Any journey page

  • From your Journeys, Insights, Opportunities, Solutions, and Metrics libraries.

When you open Ask TheyDo, it is aware of where you are in the product.

If you are viewing a filtered (custom) view of a journey, Ask TheyDo will only consider the building blocks shown in that view.

2. Ask a question

You can ask Ask TheyDo any question related to the journey or content you’re working with.

For example:

  • Summarize what this journey is about

  • What are the key pain points in this journey?

  • Which opportunities should we prioritize next?

When you open Ask TheyDo, you’ll also see a small set of recommended prompts. Clicking a prompt adds it to the input field so you can review or edit it before sending.

If you’re not sure what to ask, or want to go deeper, you can explore our prompt best practices.

Ask TheyDo automatically uses the page you’re on as context. You can improve results by adding more specific context, especially when working from workspace libraries.

When context matters most:

Selecting building blocks is especially important on library pages (Journeys, Insights, Opportunities, Solutions, Metrics). Ask TheyDo can’t search an entire workspace on its own, so selecting items helps narrow the scope and improve accuracy.

On journey pages, Ask TheyDo already has strong context from the journey structure, so it can often perform well even without additional selection.

On building block library pages

If you can edit the building blocks:

  1. Select one or more building blocks (for example, insights, opportunities, or metrics)

  2. Click Ask TheyDo in the bulk action bar

If you have view-only access (for example, due to custom roles):

You won’t be able to select building blocks. In this case, reference a clear topic or scope in your question.

For example:

  • “Summarize insights related to the sign-up flow”

  • “What themes are emerging around onboarding?”

This helps Ask TheyDo focus even without selected items.

On a journey page:

  1. Select one or more building blocks (for example, insights, opportunities, or metrics)

  2. Click Ask TheyDo in the bulk action bar

The selected items are added as context to your question. You can remove items from the context list before sending if needed.

This is especially useful when you want feedback on something specific, such as a single insight, opportunity, or metric.

4. Send your question

Once your question and context are ready, click the black arrow on the right to send.

Ask TheyDo will use the available journey context to generate a response grounded in your workspace content.

5. Give feedback

After each response, you can give feedback using thumbs up or thumbs down.

Ask TheyDo may follow up to ask what was helpful or what was missing. This feedback is captured and helps improve future responses.

6. Manage the chat

While working, you can:

  • Reset the conversation to start fresh

  • Expand the chat window for more space

  • Close the window to hide it

If you close and reopen Ask TheyDo, the conversation remains.

If you reset the conversation, it starts over. Ask TheyDo does not retain memory across conversations.
