File formats for Journey AI

Journey AI now supports an expanded range of file formats for uploading research sources. In addition to CSV and TXT files, you can now upload Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, and subtitle files to enrich your journey insights.

Supported File Formats

  • CSV files

  • TXT (text) files

  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)

  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)

  • PDF files (text-based PDFs only)

  • VTT subtitle files (.vtt)

Use Cases

The expanded file format support allows you to bring diverse research sources into TheyDo:

  • Research reports (Word, PDF)

  • Meeting transcripts from Microsoft Teams (VTT)

  • Presentation decks (PowerPoint)

  • Interview transcripts exported from Dovetail (VTT)

  • Survey results and feedback (various formats)

Where to Upload

You can upload sources in two locations:

1. Data Hub

Upload files to the Data Hub to make them available across your entire workspace. All team members can access and use these sources in any journey.

2. Journey View

Upload files directly within a specific journey. These files will still appear in the Data Hub but are immediately available for use in that particular journey.

Note: Regardless of where you upload, all sources are stored in the Data Hub for workspace-wide access.

How to Upload

  1. Click the upload button in either the Data Hub or your journey

  2. Select your file (must be under 50 MB)

  3. Wait for the file to upload

  4. Specify the source type:

    • Interviews

    • Surveys

    • Feedback

    • (More source types coming in future updates)

  5. Click "Save"

  6. Click "Next" to proceed to insight mining

Using Uploaded Files for Insight Mining

Once uploaded, your files can be used immediately for insight mining:

  1. After uploading and saving, continue to the insight mining flow

  2. Select your preferences:

    • Choose lanes (e.g., Pains, Gains, Needs)

    • Select whether to create new insights or enrich existing ones

  3. Click "Mine insights"

  4. The file will be processed and insights will be generated

Monitoring Progress

  • In the journey view, you'll see a progress indicator showing the file is being processed

  • In the Data Hub, the source will show a "processing" status

  • Once complete, insights will appear in your journey with supporting quotes from the uploaded source

Important Considerations

File Size Limit

All uploaded files must be under 50 megabytes. Files exceeding this limit cannot be uploaded.

PDF Requirements

Only text-based PDFs are supported. Scanned documents or image-based PDFs may not process correctly.

File Processing

Uploaded files are converted to a processed text format for analysis. This means:

  • Files can be downloaded from the Data Hub after upload

  • Downloaded files will be in TXT format (processed version)

  • The original file format (PDF, Word, etc.) is not retained and cannot be downloaded

Source Type Classification

When uploading, you'll need to categorize your source. Currently supported types include:

  • Interviews

  • Surveys

  • Feedback

  • Additional source types will be added in future updates

Workflow Example

Scenario: Uploading a research report PDF

  5. Click "Save" → "Next"

  6. Choose insight mining options
