Pushing solutions to Jira or Azure DevOps

Pushing solutions to Jira or Azure DevOps

Solutions help you to capture and prioritize ideas or concepts for new features, products, and services. This guide explains how to synchronize them to your back-end.

If you enable our integration with Jira Cloud or Azure DevOps, you’ll be able to synchronize your solutions to your backlog, and the other way around. There are two ways to push solutions to Jira and/or Azure Devops:

Pushing a TheyDo solution as a new item in Jira or Azure DevOps

Pushing a solution to Jira

To push a solution to Jira or Azure DevOps as a new work item:

  1. Navigate to the solution you want to push.
  2. Click on Link to Azure DevOps, or Link to Jira
  3. Select the Azure DevOps or Jira project you want to push to and what issue type you want to create. Below you’ll see the preview of what the work item will look like in Azure DevOps or Jira
  4. Press push to create the work item with the Title and Description of the solution.

Linking solutions to existing items in Jira and/or Azure Devops

You can also link a solution to an existing Azure DevOps or Jira work item.

To push a solution to Jira and/or Azure DevOps as a new work item:

  1. Navigate to the solution you want to link
  2. Click on Link to Azure DevOps, or Link to Jira and navigate to the Link to existing tab.
  3. Search for the work item (title or number) and select it.
  4. Select the way in which you want the solution to be linked to the Azure DevOps or Jira item. There are several options here, depending on the leading source you select as well as if you have 2-way sync enabled or disabled.
  5. Press push to create the work item with the Title and Description of the solution.

Tip: Be mindful that you select the right ‘leading source’ option when you link solutions to work items, so that you don’t overwrite something by mistake. See below for more details.

Linking solutions with 2-way sync disabled

If 2-way sync is disabled in your organization:

  • Status is continuously pulled from Azure and synced to (mapped) status in TheyDo.
  • Title and description are synced optionally. Select a leading source to determine if the TheyDo solution or Jira / DevOps work item should be leading. After that, there is no further syncing.

Linking solutions with 2-way sync enabled

If 2-way sync is enabled in your organization:

  • Status is continuously pulled from Azure and synced to a (mapped) status in TheyDo.
  • Title and description must be synced initially as well, since they will have to be mirrored. Select a leading source to determine if the TheyDo solution or Jira / DevOps work item should be leading.
  • Title and Description are continuously kept in sync between both systems (e.g. if you change the title in Azure, the solution title will change and vice versa).

To enable or disable 2-way sync:

Organizational admins can enable or disable 2-way sync. To do this:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Go to integrations
  3. Click on ‘manage’ next to the Azure Devops or Jira item
  4. Enable or disable the 2-way sync toggle button
